Recall 07V402000 · manufacturer campaign Q58
Exterior Lighting › Brake Lights › Switch — Honda · reported 5 Sep 2007 · 130,000 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN SEDAN AND HYBRID (CNG) VEHICLES, DURING ASSEMBLY, THE TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN MECHANISM MAY HAVE BEEN OVER-LUBRICATED WITH SILICONE GREASE. OVER TIME, SOME OF THIS EXTRA GREASE MAY DRIP ON THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CAUSING THE SWITCH TO FAIL.
The risk
FAILURE MAY RESULT IN A LOSS OF BRAKE LIGHTS AND AN INCREASED RISK THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE STRUCK IN THE REAR. IN ADDITION, A FAILED BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH COULD PREVENT SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE PARK POSITION (VEHICLES WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION).
The fix
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND INSTALL A PROTECTIVE COVER OVERTHE SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 2, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.
HONDA RECALL NO. Q58.CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
