Recall 08V041000 · manufacturer campaign 08501
Structure › Body › Hood › Hinge And Attachments — International · reported 28 Jan 2008 · 4,360 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, THE RETENTION SYSTEM OF THE PIN THAT ATTACHES THE HOOD TRAVEL LIMITING SHOCK TO THE MOUNTING BRACKET ON TOP OF THE RADIATOR MAY BECOME DISABLED DUE TO INTERFERENCE BETWEEN IT AND THE GRAB HANDLE POCKET OF THE HOOD. THIS COULD ALLOW THE PIN TO WORK OUT OF THE CONNECTION RESULTING IN THE HOOD SEPARATING FROM THE SHOCK.
The risk
WITH THE VEHICLE IN A STATIONARY POSITION, THIS CONDITION MAY CAUSE A SITUATION WHERE THE INDIVIDUAL OPENING THE HOOD WOULD HAVE TO MANUALLY SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE HOOD WITHOUT WARNING WHICH COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
The fix
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE HOOD/HOOD TRAVEL LIMITING SHOCK CONNECTION PIN AND PIN RETENTION SYSTEM WITH A SYSTEM THAT DOES NOT INTERFERE WITH THE HOOD GRAB HANDLE POCKET. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 11, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.
INTERNATIONAL RECALL NO. 08501.CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
