Recall 08V125000

Equipment Adaptive/mobility — National Van · reported 20 Mar 2008 · 43 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

NATIONAL VAN BUILDERS IS RECALLING 43 MY 2005-2008 ECONOLINE VANS EQUIPPED WITH RICON PLATFORM STYLE WHEELCHAIR LIFTS. THESE VANS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 404, "PLATFORM LIFT INSTALLATIONS IN MOTOR VEHICLES." THE THRESHOLD WARNING SYSTEM MAY NOT DETECT THE PRESENCE OF A WHEELCHAIR OR MOBILITY AID USER IN A CERTAIN SPOT WITHIN THE DEFINED THRESHOLD AREA.

The risk

THE USER OF THE LIFT COULD BE INJURED SHOULD THE LIFT MOVE UNINTENTIONALLY.

The fix

RICON IS HANDLING THE REMEDY FOR THIS CAMPAIGN (PLEASE SEE 07E095). RICON WILL CORRECT THE WHEELCHAIR LIFT FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT RICON AT 818-267-3000 OR NATIONAL VAN BUILDERS AT 800-527-7477.

CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
