What's wrong

INTERNATIONAL IS RECALLING 330 MY 2008-2009 4000 SERIES TRUCKS AND 3000 RE, FBC, AND SFC BUSES. A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE SUBASSEMBLY OF THE FRONT AXLE WHEEL HUBS RESULTED IN THE BEARINGS BEING INADEQUATELY LUBRICATED. THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE FRONT AXLE BEARINGS TO OVERHEAT WHICH CAN RESULT IN BEARING SPALLING, SEIZING, OR RELATED DAMAGE.

The risk

SUCH DAMAGE MAY RESULT IN WHEEL LOCKUP OR FRONT WHEEL SEPARATION ON THE HIGHWAY WITH LITTLE OR NO WARNING TO THE DRIVER, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FRONT AXLE BEARINGS AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE AND/OR PROPERLY LUBRICATE THE BEARINGS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 23, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
