Recall 08V389000
Power Train › Axle Hubs — Jet · reported 7 Aug 2008 · 11 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
JET IS RECALLING 11 MY 2009 GRAIN TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH ARVINMERITOR WHEEL END STUDS. THE WHEEL END STUDS WERE IMPROPERLY TEMPERED, POTENTIALLY RENDERING THEM BRITTLE AND SUSCEPTIBLE TO FRACTURE. IF ONE WHEEL STUB FRACTURES, THE REMAINING WHEEL STUDS ARE REQUIRED TO CARRY MORE LOAD.
The risk
IF ONE OF THE WHEEL STUDS BROKE AND WAS LEFT IN THIS CONDITION, THE REMAINING WHEEL STUDS MAY ALSO FRACTURE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
JET IS WORKING WITH ARVINMERITOR WHO WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE SUSPECTED STUDS FREE OF CHARGE(PLEASE SEE 08E038). THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING AUGUST 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JET AT 1-515-332-3117 OR ARVINMERITOR AT 1-866-668-7221.
CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
