What's wrong
SKYLINE IS RECALLING 83 MY 2007-2008 FREESTYLE, RAMPAGE AND TRAILRIDER MODEL 281 RECREATIONAL VEHICLES. THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE HAD THE AXLE ATTACHING BOLTS, THAT ATTACH THE AXLES TO THE CHASSIS, IMPROPERLY INSTALLED. THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE TIRES AND THESE ATTACHING BOLTS ON THIS MODEL REQUIRE THAT THE HEAD OF THE ATTACHING BOLT BE INSTALLED ON THE TIRE SIDE OF THE AXLE HANGERS AND/OR SHACKLES.
The risk
DRIVERS MAY EXPERIENCE TIRE DAMAGE AND CAN CAUSE OR CONTRIBUTE TO PREMATURE TIRE FAILURE THAT COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE AXLE ATTACHING BOLTS FOR CORRECT INSTALLATION AND THE BACK SIDE OF THE TIRES FOR DAMAGE FROM IMPROPERLY INSTALLED AXLE BOLTS. DEALERS WILL REMOVE AND REINSTALL THE AXLE MOUNTING BOLTS WITH THE CORRECT ORIENTATION AND REPLACE DAMAGED TIRES FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2008. Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
