Recall 08V678000
Trailer Hitches — Great Dane · reported 18 Dec 2008 · 2,335 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
GREAT DANE IS RECALLING 2,335 MY 2005 DRY FREIGHT SEMI-TRAILERS. THE KINGPINS CAN BREAK OFF AS THE TRACTORS WERE ATTEMPTING TO COUPLE TO THE TRAILERS.
The risk
IF A KINGPIN WERE TO BREAK OFF DURING OVER THE ROAD OPERATION, IT COULD RESULT IN THE SEPARATION OF THE TRAILER FROM THE TRACTOR WHICH COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE KINGPINS FOR LOT/HEAT CODE. ALL TRAILERS IDENTIFIED WITH KINGPINS WITHIN THE SUSPECTED LOT AND HEAT CODE WILL BE REMOVED FROM SERVICE AND SCHEDULED FOR FIELD TESTING. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON FEBRUARY 6, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT GREAT DANE AT 1-877-369-3493 OR E-MAIL AT <A HREF=HTTP://[email protected]>HTTP://[email protected]</A> .
CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO <A HREF=HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV>HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV</A> .
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
