Seats › Front Assembly › Seat Heater/cooler — Orion · reported 25 Mar 2009 · 804 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
DAIMLER BUS IS RECALLING 804 MY 2006-2009 TRANSIT BUSES EQUIPPED WITH A NEW YORK CUSTOM SEAT HEATER. CURRENTLY, THE TERMINAL CONNECTION OF THE SEAT HEATER IS IMMEDIATELY LOCATED NEXT TO THE SEAT BUS BAR. SHOULD CONDUCTIVE MATERIAL OR DEBRIS, SUCH AS A WASHER, ENTER BETWEEN THE TERMINAL CONNECTION AND THE SEAT BUS BAR, A SHORT CIRCUIT COULD OCCUR.
The risk
A SHORT CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE SEAT BUS BAR AND THE ADJACENT TERMINAL CONNECTION COULD OVERHEAT THE WIRE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A FIRE.
The fix
DEALERS WILL INSPECT BUSES FOR DEBRIS AND WILL RELOCATE THE TERMINAL CONNECTION AWAY FROM THE BUS BAR. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING APRIL 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLER BUSES AT 905-403-7807.
OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
