Latches/locks/linkages — Wilson · reported 30 Apr 2009 · 7,429 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

WILSON TRAILERS IS RECALLING 7,429 MY 1999-2009 GOOSENECK TRAILERS. THE DEFECT CONCERNS THE LOCK SUPPORT TUBE THAT MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED BEYOND SPECIFICATION. IF THIS IS THE CASE, THE LOCK COULD DEVELOP INADEQUATE PIN ENGAGEMENT RESULTING IN THE GATE OPENING UNEXPECTEDLY.

The risk

THIS COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY TO THE USER.

The fix

OWNERS ARE TO CHECK THE GAP BETWEEN THE KEEPER AND SUPPORT TUBE AND SHOULD DOCUMENT THE DIMENSION ON THE POSTCARD PROVIDED AND RETURN IT BACK TO WILSON TRAILERS. IF THE GAP IS GREATER THAN 3/8 INCH, A FIELD REPAIR IS AVAILABLE TO ADJUST THE SUPPORT TUBE TO THE CORRECT DIMENSION. IF THE OWNER PREFER, YOU MAY CONTACT WILSON DEALER SO THEY CAN INSPECT THE AREA OF CONCERN AND ADJUST THE LOCK SUPPORT TUBE TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE PIN ENGAGEMENT. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MAY 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT WILSON TRAILERS AT 1800-798-2002.

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
