Recall 09V166000 · manufacturer campaign 09KW3
Service Brakes, Air › Disc — Kenworth · reported 19 May 2009 · 140 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
PACCAR IS RECALLING 140 MY 2005, 2007-2009 T800, W900, AND T660 TRUCKS. THE CALIPER MOUNTING FASTENERS ATTACHING THE AIR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY TO THE TORQUE PLATE MAY HAVE RECEIVED INSUFFICIENT TORQUE DURING THE INSTALLATION PROCESS. THE INSUFFICIENT TORQUE MAY ALLOW THE AIR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY TO BECOME LOOSE AND POSSIBLY SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE.
The risk
THIS COULD RESULT IN REDUCED BRAKING CAPACITY AND ALSO A ROAD DEBRIS HAZARD, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AIR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLIES AND REPLACE THE CALIPER MOUNTING FASTENERS AND TORQUE PROPERLY. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KENWORTH AT 1-425-828-5440.
KENWORTH RECALL NO. 09KW3.OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
