Structure › Body › Roof And Pillars — Blue Bird · reported 17 Dec 2009 · 1,702 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
BLUE BIRD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008 THROUGH 2010 MICRO BIRD SCHOOL BUSES MANUFACTURED FROM AUGUST 28, 2007 THROUGH OCTOBER 29, 2009. AN INCORRECT NUMBER OF RIVETS MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED IN THE FRONT ROOF CAP THAT ATTACHES TO THE FRONT ROOF SHEET. THESE BUSES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 221, "SCHOOL BUS BODY JOINT STRENGTH."
The risk
AN INADEQUATE NUMBER OF RIVETS IN THE ROOF WOULD INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE BUS OCCUPANTS IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.
The fix
BLUE BIRD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPAIR THE BUSES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 29, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BLUE BIRD AT 1-478-822-2242.
BLUE BIRD'S CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS R09PY.OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
