Recall 10V155000 · manufacturer campaign M0170

Engine And Engine Cooling › Exhaust System — Hino · reported 16 Apr 2010 · 560 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

HINO IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 TRUCKS. THE UPPER BOLT OF THE CENTER EXHAUST HANGER MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PROPERLY TIGHTENED DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. IF THE BOLTS WERE OVER TIGHTENED, THE BOLTS AND THE HANGER BRACKET MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED. THIS COULD CAUSE THE BOLT TO FAIL AND THUS THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WOULD NOT BE SUPPORTED AS DESIGNED.

The risk

THIS CONDITION WOULD PLACE ADDITIONAL STRESS ON THE OTHER EXHAUST SUPPORT DEVICES AND COULD LEAD TO ADDITIONAL FAILURES. IF THIS CONDITION WERE UNDETECTED IT ULTIMATELY COULD RESULT IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM SEPARATING FROM THE VEHICLE, THUS FALLING ONTO THE SURFACE OF THE ROADWAY. IF THIS FALLEN PORTION OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS STRUCK BY A VEHICLE IT COULD ULTIMATELY RESULT IN A CRASH.

The fix

HINO WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 9, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HINO AT 248-699-9330.

HINO RECALL NO. M0170. OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
