Recall 10V302000 · manufacturer campaign 39-0139830
Wheels › Lugs/nuts/bolts/studs — Pierce · reported 28 Jun 2010 · 273 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
PIERCE IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 FIRE TRUCKS MANUFACTURED FROM AUGUST 13, 2009 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2010. THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH EXCESSIVE PAINT ON THE STEEL WHEEL MOUNTING SURFACES. THE EXCESSIVE PAINT MAY CAUSE THE WHEEL LUG NUTS TO LOSE CLAMP LOAD, LOOSEN AND FALL OFF.
The risk
EVENTUALLY THE WHEEL(S) COULD SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE AND CAUSE A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL CHECK THE WHEEL NUT TORQUE AND TIGHTEN THE LUG NUTS TO THE RECOMMENDED TORQUE AS SPECIFIED IN THE PIERCE CUSTOM CHASSIS AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING AUGUST 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PIERCE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-888-974-3723.
PIERCE SAFETY RECALL NO.39-0139830.OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
