What's wrong
BMW IS RECALLING CERTAIN 2005 THROUGH 2009 R 1200 RT POLICE MOTORCYCLES MANUFACTURED FROM APRIL 2005 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2009. THE BRACKET WHICH SUPPORTS THE AUDIBLE SIGNALING DEVICE CAN BREAK, POSSIBLY ALLOWING THE SIGNALING DEVICE TO FALL FROM THE VEHICLE AND ONTO THE ROADWAY.
The risk
SHOULD THE SIGNALING DEVICE FALL FROM THE MOTORCYCLE WHILE BEING DRIVEN ON THE ROADWAYS, IT COULD BECOME AN OBSTACLE FOR OTHER DRIVERS WHICH MAY RESULT IN A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL ATTACH TWO TETHER CABLES TO THE DEVICE IN ORDER TO SECURE IT TO THE MOTORCYCLE IN THE EVENT THE MOUNTING BRACKET BECOMES LOOSE. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 2, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-525-7417.

Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
