What's wrong
HARLEY-DAVIDSON IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 FXDF MOTORCYCLES WITH FORK LEG ASSEMBLIES (LH P/N 48622-08, RH P/N 48623-08) MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 29 THROUGH FEBRUARY 9, 2010. THESE FORK LEG ASSEMBLIES MAY HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY ASSEMBLED USING THE WRONG SPRINGS.
The risk
MOTORCYCLES CONTAINING THE WRONG SPRINGS WILL HAVE REDUCED SUSPENSION EFFECTIVENESS WHICH MAY RESULT IN REDUCED TRACTION ON IRREGULAR ROAD SURFACES, AND WILL ALSO HAVE A DIFFERENT LEAN ANGLE WHEN PARKED ON THE SIDE STAND, POSSIBLY AFFECTING PARKING STABILITY. THIS CONDITION MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
HARLEY-DAVIDSON WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE AFFECTED MOTORCYCLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 26, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HARLEY-DAVIDSON AT 1-414-343-4056.
OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
