Recall 10V344000
Service Brakes, Hydraulic — Airstream · reported 22 Jul 2010 · 737 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
AIRSTREAM IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2009 CLASSIC TRAVEL TRAILERS MANUFACTURED FROM MARCH 2005 THROUGH APRIL 2009 AND EQUIPPED WITH HYDRAULIC BRAKE CONTROLLER BY ACTIVE TECHNOLOGIES. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE BRAKE CONTROLLER CAN FAIL UNEXPECTEDLY CAUSING THE BRAKES ON THE TRAILER TO LOCK UP OR TO FAIL COMPLETELY.
The risk
THE LOCKING OF THE BRAKES OR BRAKE FAILURE COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL THAT COULD RESULT IN A CRASH AND POSSIBLE SERIOUS INJURY.
The fix
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE BRAKE CONTROLLER AND IF FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE IT WILL BE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING AUGUST 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT AIRSTREAM AT 937-596-6111.
OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
