What's wrong
DAIMLER TRUCKS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 FREIGHTLINER CASCADIA AND CONORADO AND WESTERN STAR 4900 HEAVY TRUCKS MANUFACTURED FROM APRIL 22, 2010, THROUGH JANUARY 28, 2011, EQUIPPED WITH AN EPA10 ISX ENGINE. THE ROUTING AND SECURING OF THE ALTERNATOR CABLES MAY ALLOW THE CABLE TO CONTACT OR NEARLY CONTACT AN ENGINE HEAT SHIELD POTENTIALLY DAMAGING THE CABLE INSULATION.
The risk
A POSITIVE ALTERNATOR CABLE, WITH DAMAGED INSULATION, THAT MAY CONTACT A GROUNDED COMPONENT CAN CAUSE A SHORT CIRCUIT THAT CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.
The fix
DAIMLER TRUCKS WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE ALTERNATOR CABLES FOR DAMAGE TO THE INSULATION. CABLES WITH DAMAGE TO THE INSULATION WILL BE REPLACED. THE CABLE ROUTING AND SECURING WILL BE MODIFIED TO ENSURE SUFFICIENT CLEARENCE TO THE HEAT SHIELD. REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT MAY 27, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLER TRUCKS AT 1-800-547-0712.

Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
