Recall 11V177000
Exterior Lighting › Headlights — Ud · reported 8 Mar 2011 · 358 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
UD TRUCKS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 UD1800, UD2000, UD2300, UD2600, AND UD3300 MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 22, 2010 THROUGH NOVEMBER 29, 2010. THE VISUAL OPTICAL AIMING HEADLAMPS AND THE LOW BEAM HORIZONTAL ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM WERE NOT ADEQUATELY SECURED TO PREVENT ADJUSTMENT AFTER MANUFACTURE. THEREFORE, THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT."
The risk
IMPROPER ADJUSTMENTS TO THE HEADLAMPS OR THE LOW BEAM ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM MAY RESULT IN HEADLAMP LIGHTING THAT DOES NOT FULLY ILLUMINATE THE ROAD SURFACE OR MAY INHIBIT THE ABILITY OF MOTORISTS TO SEE VEHICLES WHICH CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL MAKE SURE ALL VEHICLES WILL HAVE A PREVENTION CAP INSTALLED OVER THE LOW BEAM HORIZONTAL HEADLAMP ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM TO PREVENT ADJUSTMENT. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 18, 2011. OWNER MAY CONTACT UD TRUCKS AT 972-756-5500.
OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
