Recall 11V323000 · manufacturer campaign 2011100006
Suspension › Rear › Springs — Sprinter · reported 13 Jun 2011 · 47 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
SPRINTER IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 SPRINTER 3500 VEHICLES SOLD BOTH UNDER THE MERCEDES-BENZ AND FREIGHTLINER BRAND NAMES. THE SUPPLIER OF THE REAR SPRINGS ROLLED THE SPRING EYE DIAMETER OUT OF TOLERANCE ON A LIMITED NUMBER OF PARTS IN ITS PRODUCTION, AND THEN CORRECTED THE DIAMETER WITHOUT HEATING THE PARTS.
The risk
THIS COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO A CRACK OF THE SPRING EYE OVER TIME, WHICH INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
OWNERS WILL BE CONTACTED, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REAR SPRINGS AS NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING NOVEMBER 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SPRINTER AT 1-877-762-8267.
SPRINTER SAFETY RECALL NUMBER IS 2011100006.OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
