Recall 11V334000 · manufacturer campaign 11KWD
Latches/locks/linkages › Hood › Latch — Kenworth · reported 24 Jun 2011 · 72 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
PACCAR IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2012 KENWORTH T660 TRACTORS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN APRIL 18, 2011, AND MAY 20, 2011, EQUIPPED WITH A SAFETY LATCH ATTACHED TO THE HOOD STRUT WHICH IS DESIGNED TO AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGE WHEN THE HOOD IS OPENED. IF THE HOOD STRUT WERE TO SEPARATE, THE SAFETY LATCH MAY NOT ENGAGE.
The risk
A NON-OPERATIONAL SAFETY LATCH MAY NOT BE DETECTED BY AN OPERATOR AND THE HOOD MAY UNEXPECTEDLY CLOSE, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY.
The fix
KENWORTH DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE HOOD STRUT FOR THE SPECIFIC DEFECTIVE LOT CODE AND IF THE STRUT IS WITHIN THE LOT CODE, THE STRUT WILL BE REPLACED. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 19, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PACCAR AT 1-425-468-7400.
KENWORTH SAFETY RECALL NO. 11KWD.OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO <A HREF=HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV>HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV</A> .
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
