Recall 11V348000
Engine And Engine Cooling — Lbce · reported 8 Jul 2011 · 4 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
LBCE IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 LBCE MODEL HTC-3140 CRANES EQUIPPED WITH CATERPILLAR DIESEL C15 ENGINES. OVERTIME, A WELD IN THE COMBUSTION TUBE THAT IS INSIDE OF THE DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER CAN FAIL CAUSING THE FILTER TO BE BURNED THROUGH BY HOT COMBUSTION GASES.
The risk
A FIRE COULD RESULT IF THESE HOT GASES ERUPT NEAR SOMETHING FLAMMABLE.
The fix
CATERPILLAR IS HANDLING THE OWNER NOTIFICATION AND REMEDY FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. PLEASE SEE CATERPILLAR'S DEFECT REPORT 11E-006. CATERPILLAR WILL REPLACE THE EXISTING COMBUSTION TUBE WITH A THICK WALL COMBUSTION TUBE WHICH WILL NOT ALLOW THE HEAT TO BREAK THROUGH. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS WERE NOTIFIED OF THE SAFETY RECALL BY LBCE ON JUNE 2, 2011. A SECOND NOTICE WILL BE ISSUED WHEN PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE WHICH IS CURRENTLY ESTIMATED TO BE MID-AUGUST 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CATERPILLAR TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-447-4986.
OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
