Recall 11V368000 · manufacturer campaign 11513

Structure › Body — Ic Bus · reported 22 Jul 2011 · 340 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

NAVISTAR IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 AND 2012 IC CE AND RE SCHOOL BUSES MANUFACTURED FROM OCTOBER 8, 2009, THROUGH APRIL 14, 2011. THESE BUSES WERE BUILT WITHOUT OR INCORRECTLY INSTALLED FLOOR CHANNEL REINFORCEMENTS. ACCORDINGLY, THE BUSES FAIL TO CONFORM WITH THE SEAT BACK REAR FORCE AND DISPLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 222, "SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION."

The risk

NONCOMPLIANCE TO THE STANDARD INCREASES THE PASSENGER'S RISK OF REARWARD EJECTION FROM THE SEAT WHICH MAY CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.

The fix

NAVISTAR WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE BUSES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 16, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NAVISTAR AT 1-800-448-7825.

NAVISTAR'S RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS 11513.OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
