Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/trailer › Lpg Systems › Furnace — Dutchmen · reported 22 Aug 2011 · 171 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
DUTCHMEN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 RUBICON TRAVEL TRAILERS MANUFACTURED FROM DECEMBER 8, 2010, THROUGH JULY 15, 2011. THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH THE EXTERIOR FURNACE VENT NOT INSTALLED IN THE SIDEWALL OF THE TRAILER. THE FURNACE CAN RUN WITHOUT THE PROPER EXHAUST VENTILATION AND RELEASE CARBON MONOXIDE TO THE INTERIOR OF THE UNIT.
The risk
THIS COULD RESULT IN ASPHYXIATION OR CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. THE HEAT BUILD UP FROM THE EXHAUST CAN ALSO RESULT IN A FIRE.
The fix
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE TRAILER TO VERIFY THE FURNACE EXHAUST IS PRESENT AND INSTALL ONE IF NECESSARY FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 26, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DUTCHMEN AT 1-574-537-0700.
OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
