Recall 12V059000 · manufacturer campaign 12505
Seats — Ic Bus · reported 16 Feb 2012 · 677 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
NAVISTAR IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 IC BUS BE AND CE AND CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2012 RE SCHOOL BUSES MANUFACTURED FROM APRIL 8, 2010 THROUGH JULY 1, 2011, EQUIPPED WITH C. E. WHITE SEAT CUSHIONS. THE SELF-LATCHING MECHANISM USED TO RETAIN THE SEAT CUSHION TO THE FRAME MAY NOT ACTIVATE. THUS, THESE SEATS FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NUMBER 222, "SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION."
The risk
IF THE SEAT CUSHION IS NOT SECURELY LATCHED TO THE SEAT STRUCTURE, THE SEAT COULD BECOME DISLODGED, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS.
The fix
NAVISTAR WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE SEATS FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NAVISTAR AT 260-461-1890.
NAVISTARS RECALL NUMBER IS 12505.CUSTOMERS MAY CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
