What's wrong
TEMSA GLOBAL (TEMSA) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007-2012 TS35 BUSES FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 217, BUS EMERGENCY EXITS AND WINDOW RETENTION AND RELEASE. SOME OF THE EMERGENCY EXIT MECHANISM INSTRUCTION LABELS MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED FARTHER THAN 16 CM FROM THE RELEASE MECHANISM.
The risk
DUE TO THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS AND THE WINDOWS RELEASE MECHANISM, IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, PASSENGERS MAY NOT RECOGNIZE AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR RELEASING THE EMERGENCY EXIT WINDOWS DELAYING THEIR SAFE EXIT FROM THE BUS AND , INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY.
The fix
TEMSA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND NEW LABELS WILL BE MAILED TO OWNERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE MAY 23, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TEMSA AT 1-404-602-0151.
OWNERS MAY CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
