Recall 12V203000
Equipment — Newmar · reported 9 May 2012 · 2 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
NEWMAR IS RECALLING ONE MODEL YEAR 2012 KOUNTRY AIRE FW AND ONE MODEL YEAR 2012 KOUNTRY STAR FW FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH DEXTER ELECTRIC/HYDRAULIC (E/H) BRAKE ACTUATOR PUMPS. SOME OF THESE PUMPS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PROPERLY HEAT TREATED. THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE PREMATURE WEAR OF SOME CRITICAL COMPONENTS IN THESE PUMPS WHICH CAN RENDER THE UNIT INOPERABLE.
The risk
THE E/H BRAKE ACTUATOR PROVIDES BRAKING POWER TO THE TRAILER BRAKES. FAILURE OF THE ACTUATOR CAN RESULT IN THE LOSS OF BRAKING EFFORT BY THE TRAILER, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
NEWMAR WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEXTER WILL REPLACE THE ACTUATORS, FREE OF CHARGE. NEWMAR HAS NOT YET PROVIDED A NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NEWMAR AT 1-574-773-2007.
OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATIONS VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
