NHTSA safety recall

Recall 12V258000

Equipment Adaptive/mobility — Ic Bus · reported 5 Jun 2012 · 4 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

NAVISTAR IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007, 2009, AND 2011 IC CESB SCHOOL BUSES EQUIPPED WITH BRAUN CENTURY-2 AND VISTA-2 WHEELCHAIR LIFTS. OVER TIME, AND WITH FREQUENT USE, THE ROLL STOP LATCHES ON THE OUTER BARRIER MAY BECOME BENT OR MISALIGNED.

The risk

A WHEELCHAIR OCCUPANT MAY DEFEAT OR RIDE OVER THE INSUFFICIENTLY LATCHED ROLL STOP. IF THIS OCCURS WHEN THE LIFT PLATFORM IS IN AN ELEVATED POSITION, THE WHEELCHAIR’S OCCUPANT COULD FALL AND SUSTAIN INJURY.

The fix

NAVISTAR HAS REPORTED THAT ALL THE AFFECTED BUSES HAVE BEEN REPAIRED BY AUTHORIZED BRAUN DEALERS. THEREFORE, AN OWNER NOTIFICATION NOTICE IS NOT NECESSARY FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NAVISTAR AT 1-260-461-1890.

OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
