Recall 12V358000 · manufacturer campaign FL-629

Suspension › Front — Thomas Built Buses · reported 24 Jul 2012 · 2 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling two model year 2013 Saf-T-Liner C2 Thomas Built school buses manufactured from April 18, 2012, through May 11, 2012, and equipped with Detroit Axle brand front axle knuckles. The front knuckles on these vehicles may have a machining error in the wheel bearing area which may lead to premature spindle failure.

The risk

If the spindle fails, the wheel may separate from the knuckle, resulting in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the affected components, free of charge. The recall began on August 10, 2012. Owners may contact Daimler Trucks North America toll free at 1-800-547-0712.

DTNA's recall campain number is FL-629.Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
