Recall 12V456000 · manufacturer campaign CSN 570
Equipment — Altec · reported 18 Sep 2012 · 245 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
Altec Industries, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2002-2009 AH75/85/100 and HL125 aerial device vehicles equipped with 16-foot radial outriggers. An improper torque was applied to the outrigger cylinder piston retention system during assembly. As a result, the cylinder could loosen from the rod allowing the outrigger leg to protrude beyond the confines of the chassis when it is in a stowed position.
The risk
If the cylinder loosens from the rod, the outrigger could strike a person or object, increasing the risk of injury or property damage.
The fix
Altec will notify owners, and will increase the torque on the piston free of charge. The safety recall began on November 6, 2012. Owners may contact Altec Industries at 1-877-462-5832.
Altec's recall campaign number is CSN 570.Customers may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
