Recall 12V461000 · manufacturer campaign S54

Power Train — Honda · reported 19 Sep 2012 · 1,542 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Honda is recalling certain model year 2012 NC700XDC and NC700XC motorcycles. Some motorcycles may be equipped with drive chains that contain outer drive plates that were improperly heat-treated, resulting in plate fracture during use.

The risk

If a plate fractures, the motorcycle can unexpectedly lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the drive chain, free of charge. The safety recall began on October 9, 2012. Owners may contact Honda Customer Service at 1-866-784-1870.

Honda's recall campaign number is S54.Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Vehicles covered by this recall

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
