Recall 12V463000 · manufacturer campaign IK00-1738
Structure — Vermeer · reported 20 Sep 2012 · 3 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
Vermeer is recalling two model year 2012 and one model year 2013 HG6000TX horizontal grinder trailers, manufactured from July 20, 2012, through August 21, 2012, equipped with a dolly transport option. Due to incorrect machining, the kingpin used with the assembly that converts the tracked grinder into a trailer can experience excessive wear.
The risk
Wear on the kingpin may result in its failure, which could allow the trailer to separate from the towing vehicle, possibly striking another vehicle, a stationary object, or a bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury.
The fix
Vermeer will notify owners, and dealers will replace the kingpin free of charge. The safety recall began on November 19, 2012. Owners may contact Vermeer at 1-800-829-0051 or 1-641-621-7060.
Vermeer's recall campaign number is IK00-1738. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
