Recall 12V507000 · manufacturer campaign 12529
Steering › Steering Wheel/handle Bar — International · reported 17 Oct 2012 · 10,046 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
Navistar is recalling certain model year 2013 International brand LoneStar, ProStar, and WorkStar commercial trucks, manufactured from April 22, 2012, through October 29, 2012, and equipped with steering wheel feature codes 05CAW, 05CAX, 05CAZ, 05CBA, or 05WBD. The steering wheel may not have been completely welded to its mounting hub.
The risk
A steering wheel with an incomplete weld may separate from the steering wheel mounting hub, leading to a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix
Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace affected steering wheels, free of charge. The safety recall began on November 21, 2012. Owners may contact Navistar at 1-800-448-7825.
Navistar's recall campaign number is 12529.Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
