Recall 12V515000 · manufacturer campaign R12-030
Visibility › Power Window Devices And Controls — New Flyer · reported 17 Oct 2012 · 11 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
New Flyer is recalling certain model year 2010 GE35LFR and GE40LFR transit buses, equipped with Ricon 3-Minute Urban Transit Bus egress window sets. The composition of the material used to cast the handle that opens the egress window is incorrect, resulting in a reduction in material strength. The handle(s) on the emergency egress passenger windows may break before the window latch is released.
The risk
In the event the egress window fails during an actual emergency situation, passengers may be trapped in the vehicle placing them at risk of injury.
The fix
New Flyer will notify owners, and dealers will replace the handles free of charge. The recall began on November 1, 2012. Owners may contact New Flyer at 1-204-982-8400 for more information.
New Flyer's campaign recall number is R12-030. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
