Recall 12V519000 · manufacturer campaign SC0366
Electrical System — Mack · reported 18 Oct 2012 · 260 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
Mack Trucks is recalling certain model year 2008-2009 GU, LEU, and MRU trucks, manufactured from December 12, 2007, through May 8, 2008 and equipped with a certain focal mounted retarder control box. The control box may lose its electrical ground.
The risk
If the control box loses ground, it may have localized overheating. This could lead to a vehicle fire.
The fix
All affected vehicles were sold to one customer that has already been notified. An official owner notification letter will be mailed to the one customer in early November 2012. Mack will replace the suspect control box on the affected vehicles, free of charge. Owners may contact Mack Trucks at 1-800-866-1177.
Mack's recall number is SC0366.Customers may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
