Recall 13V192000 · manufacturer campaign SB-0116

Equipment — Elgin · reported 9 May 2013 · 15 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Elgin Sweeper Company Inc. (Elgin) is recalling certain model year 2006-2012 Crosswind J Alternative Fuel street sweepers, serial numbers J3285, J3260D, J3261D, J3300D, J3367, J3368D, J3370D, J3385D, J3424D, J3426D, J3453D, J3472D, and J3513D. Extended use of the auxiliary hydraulic pump may cause it to overheat and fail.

The risk

If the auxiliary pump is operated for an extended period of time, the unit could overheat and melt wiring, possibly resulting in a fire.

The fix

Elgin will notify owners, and dealers will test the electrical draw on the system. If the system is within parameters then the pump solenoid will be replaced, if not, then the complete pump and solenoid will be replaced. The recall began during May 2013. Customers may contact Vactor Customer Service by calling 1-877-342-5374. Elgin's recall campaign number is SB-0116.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
