Equipment — Nabi · reported 20 Jun 2013 · 100 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

North American Bus Industries, Inc. (NABI) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 40LFW and model year 2013 31LFW transit buses manufactured October 5, 2012, through May 15, 2013 and equipped with a rear mount Sutrak electric HVAC. The fuse holder inside the HVAC may allow voltage spikes, which may damage electrical components.

The risk

Damage to electrical components may result in a fire.

The fix

NABI will notify the fleet owner of the affected buses and dealers will replace the cables and fuse holders for the HVAC system, free of charge. The recall began on July 19, 2013. NABI's recall number is 20135. Owners may contact NABI at 1-256-831-4296.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
