Recall 13V299000

Equipment — Ameritrans · reported 8 Jul 2013 · 4 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

TMC Group, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 Ameritrans E-Series buses manufactured August 1, 2006, through July 31, 2012. These buses are equipped with a Ricon wheelchair lift with an optional armored pendant cable. The armored cable may be positioned such that it does not clear the wheelchair lift.

The risk

If the cable does not clear the wheel chair lift it may contact the power lug and if it does not have a nonconductive cover, or it has an improperly installed non-conductive cover, then a short circuit may occur that could result in a fire.

The fix

Ricon will send owners a supplemental cover kit and instructions free of charge. A notice to owners was mailed by certified mail on July 5, 2013. Owners may contact Ricon Customer Service at 1-800-322-2884 or by e-mail at [email protected].

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
