Recall 13V496000 · manufacturer campaign FL-648, 13R-1
Electrical System › Software — Freightliner · reported 17 Oct 2013 · 20 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2014 Freightliner Business Class M2 emergency vehicles manufactured January 29, 2013, through July 12, 2013. The software that shuts down the engine in the event of a vehicle problem may not have been disabled on certain vehicles intended for emergency use.
The risk
During certain emergency operations, engine shutdown could hamper rescue operations, increasing the risk of injury.
The fix
DTNA will notify owners and dealers will update the engine software, free of charge. The recall began on December 2, 2013. Owners may contact DTNA at 1-503-745-5219. DTNA's recall number is FL-648, 13R-1.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
