What's wrong
Spartan Motors Chassis, Inc. (Spartan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Gladiator emergency vehicles manufactured October 22, 2012, to February 12, 2014. In the affected vehicles, a high pressure fuel fitting may make contact with the aluminum engine tunnel overlay causing the fitting to wear and possibly leak fuel.
The risk
If the fuel fitting leaks in the presence of an ignition source, there is an increased risk of fire.
The fix
Spartan will notify owners, and dealers will install a new remote fuel filter mounting bracket to move the filter inboard, free of charge. The recall began on July 30, 2014. Owners may contact Spartan customer service at 1-517-543-6400. Spartan's number for this recall is 14009.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
