Recall 14V601000 · manufacturer campaign CSN 604

Equipment — Altec · reported 26 Sep 2014 · 813 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Altec Industries Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 DC1317 wood chippers manufactured September 1, 2011, to July 14, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the fasteners that attach the chipper cutting disc bearing to the unit may fail and the chipper disc may detach.

The risk

If the disc detaches within the housing, there is an increased risk of injury to the operator or those nearby.

The fix

Altec has notified owners, and dealers will replace the disc bearing mounting bolts, free of charge. The recall began on October 29, 2014. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 604.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
