Engine And Engine Cooling › Engine › Diesel — Elgin · reported 22 Oct 2014 · 92 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
Elgin Sweeper Company Inc. (Elgin) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Broom Badger sweeper trucks manufactured March 1, 2013, to October 1, 2014. The affected vehicles are equipped with a modification hydraulic oil cooler fan wiring harness. The oil cooler fan may fail and cause overheating.
The risk
If the oil cooler fan fails and the hydraulic system overheats, a vehicle fire could result.
The fix
Elgin will notify owners, and dealers will install a modified wiring harness that separates ground wires form the fan and sending unit, free of charge. The recall began December 1, 2014. Owners may contact Elgin customer service at 1-847-741-5370. Elgin's number for this recall is SB-0148.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
