Recall 14V813000 · manufacturer campaign SB-0160
Electrical System — Elgin · reported 23 Dec 2014 · 6 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
Elgin Sweeper Company Inc. (Elgin) is recalling certain model year 2014 Elgin Eagle 4MF, and Road Wizard 4MW street sweepers manufactured October 3, 2014, to November 26, 2014. Due to the routing, the battery and the alternator wires may conduct higher current than designed, resulting in wire failure and charging system loss.
The risk
The excessive current may result in melted wires and an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire.
The fix
Elgin has notified owners, and dealers will replace and reroute the affected wiring, free of charge. The recall began on December 30, 2014. Owners may contact Elgin customer service at 1-877-342-5374. Elgin's number for this recall is SB-0160.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
