Recall 15V383000 · manufacturer campaign FL-683

Electrical System › Instrument Cluster/panel — Western Star · reported 17 Jun 2015 · 21 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2015 Western Star 4700, 4800 and 4900 trucks manufactured November 15, 2014, to January 30, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the speedometer may not operate properly, possibly not displaying the vehicle's speed.

The risk

If the speedometer does not show the vehicle speed, the driver may unknowingly exceed the posted speed limit, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will install a new speedometer, free of charge. The recall began on July 28, 2015. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-745-8000. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-683.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
