Recall 15V562000 · manufacturer campaign R15-015

Steering › Linkages › Tie Rod Assembly — New Flyer · reported 4 Sep 2015 · 432 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

New Flyer Industries Ltd. (New Flyer) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 New Flyer XDE40 and XD40, 2014 XD60, XN35 and XN60, 2015 XDE35, and 2013-2015 XN40 transit buses. The affected vehicles may be equipped with an improperly torqued front axle center link retaining clamp on the tie rod. As a result, the tie rod may disconnect, causing a loss of steering.

The risk

A loss of steering increases the risk of a crash.

The fix

New Flyer will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to verify that the center link retaining clamp is properly torqued. Any components displaying play or movement will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 1, 2015. Owners may contact New Flyer customer service at 1-204-224-6706. New Flyer's number for this recall is R15-015.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
