Recall 15V679000

Steering › Linkages — Freightliner · reported 20 Oct 2015 · 358 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Fontaine Modification is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Freightliner M2 vehicles converted to be equipped with dual steering wheels by Fontaine Modification between March 13, 2014 and September 1, 2015. In the affected vehicles, a locating pin in the dual steering linkage may break or fall out resulting in the momentary loss of steering or steering lock up.

The risk

A momentary loss of steering or steering lock up increases the risk of a crash.

The fix

Fontaine Modification will notify owners and supply a steering linkage locating key remedy kit for Freightliner dealers or authorized service facilities (including the customer's own maintenance shop) to install free of charge. The recall began on December 18, 2015. Owners may contact Fontaine Modification customer service at 1-800-366-8246.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
