Recall 16V160000 · manufacturer campaign 22010

Steering › Electric Power Assist System — Chevrolet · reported 18 Mar 2016 · 6,280 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicles manufactured May 15, 2013, to March 3, 2016. Corrosion of the connector between the electric power steering module and the torque sensor connector may cause a loss of electric power steering assist.

The risk

A greater steering effort would be needed to control the vehicle if power steering is lost, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear assembly, free of charge. The recall began on May 11, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 22010.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Vehicles covered by this recall

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
