Recall 16V378000 · manufacturer campaign IK3304
Structure › Frame And Members — Vermeer · reported 24 May 2016 · 636 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
Vermeer Manufacturing Company (Vermeer) is recalling certain model year 2012-2016 BC900XL wood chippers manufactured June 8, 2012, to May 31, 2016. The chassis of the affected wood chippers may have improper welds which could result in separation of the wood chipper from the tow vehicle.
The risk
If the brush chipper separates from the tow vehicle, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
The fix
Vermeer will notify owners, and dealers will remove the current fixed tongue and bolt on a new fixed tongue, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in July 2016. Owners may contact Vermeer customer service at 1-800-829-0051 extension 7060. Vermeer's number for this recall is IK3304.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
