Recall 16V423000
Exterior Lighting — Heartland · reported 10 Jun 2016 · 70 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
Heartland Trailer Mfg. (Heartland) is recalling certain model year 2016 18' Carhauler dovetail trailers manufactured December 1, 2015, to April 30, 2016. The affected trailers have clearance lights that are not visible from the rear of the trailer. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Assoc. Equipment."
The risk
Without visible clearance lights, the trailer is at an increased risk of a crash.
The fix
Heartland will notify owners, and dealers will install P2-rated beehive-style clearance lamps on the front and rear sides of the trailer, free of charge. The recall began on July 22, 2016. Owners may contact Heartland customer service at 1-573-471-6826.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
