Recall 16V456000 · manufacturer campaign SC0404

Suspension › Front — Mack · reported 22 Jun 2016 · 64 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain model year 2013 Pinnacle (CXU) trucks manufactured April 16, 2012, to May 4, 2012. These vehicles are equipped with certain Meritor FF967 non-drive front steer axles that may have been incorrectly heat treated.

The risk

The improperly heat treated axles may fracture, resulting in a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

Mack will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the axles for specific heat code serial numbers. The affected axles will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on August 1, 2016. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0404.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
