Recall 16V550000 · manufacturer campaign 220-07192016-0229

Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/trailer — Coachmen · reported 22 Jul 2016 · 132 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2017 Coachmen Freedom Express recreational vehicles, models FET28SE, FET282BHDS, FET282BHDSLE, FET281RLDS, FET281RLDSLE, FET29SE, FET292BHDS and FET292BHDSLE, manufactured May 16, 2016, to July 19, 2016. These vehicles may have insufficient space between the slideroom driveshaft and the driver's side tires, causing the tires to rub.

The risk

If the driveshaft rubs against the tires, tire failure may result, possibly causing a loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicle, free of charge. The recall began on August 25, 2016. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-825-8205. Forest River's number for this recall is 220-07192016-0229.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
